The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Soo Thunderbirds are set to honour former goaltender Michael Doan this weekend.

Doan died tragically in a single-vehicle accident in Rochester, Minnesota in July.

Doan played the 2010-11 season with the Thunderbirds, posting a 25-8-3 record and a pair of shutouts in 37 games.

That season also saw the Sault native receive the Wayne Chase Memorial Trophy after posting the NOJHL’s lowest goals against average (2.66).

Prior to joining the Thunderbirds, Doan spent the 2009-10 season with the Soo (Mich.) Eagles.

The ceremony is set for Saturday night ahead of the Thunderbirds game against the Eagles at the John Rhodes Community Centre.
