The Soo Thunderbirds seven-game homestand continued on Friday night at the John Rhodes Community Centre in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action.
The Thunderbirds picked up a 6-1 win over the Blind River Beavers, improving to 20-4-0-2 in the process.
Joey Ogden led the way offensively for the Thunderbirds with a pair of goals and an assist in the win. Ogden has points in 10 of his 14 games with the Thunderbirds this season, including eight straight. He has six multi-point games.
Nicolas Tassone and Jaren Bellini added a goal and an assist for the Thunderbirds while Boris Katchouk and Matthew Mitchell also scored in the win. Goaltender Mario Culina stopped 12 shots.
Regan Yew had the lone goal for the Beavers in the loss. Daniel Potter got the start in goal for the Beavers and stopped 38 shots before being pulled after the sixth Thunderbirds goal with 10 minutes left in the game. Zach Mills came in and stopped all eight shots he faced.
The Thunderbirds are back in action on Saturday night when they host the Sudbury Nickel Barons. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m.
In other NOJHL action on Friday night, Matt Young stopped 56 shots to lead the Powassan Voodoos to a 3-1 win over the Cochrane Crunch in Cochrane.
The NOHL’s other game saw Connor Thie score twice and assist on three other goals in a 7-1 win over the Abitibi Eskimos. Ryan Aubertin added a goal and three assists in the win.
