The Soo Thunderbirds scored two third period goals to break a 2-2 tie and double up the Manitoulin Islanders 4-2 on Friday night in Little Current.

With 16 skaters in the lineup, the Thunderbirds erased a 2-1 Manitoulin lead with the game's final three goals.

Randy Wills put the Thunderbirds ahead 1-0 1:46 into the second period before Jeff Mussen on the power play and Corey MacGillis tallied to give Manitoulin the lead.

Brett Perlini tied the game with the man advantage before the period was out and then opened up the third frame with the game winner again on the power play with just 1:46 remaining in regulation time.

Tyler Gendron added another goal in the final minute. Gendron assisted twice on the night as did Nick Minardi. Travis O'Brien faced 21 shots in the win while the Soo fired 38 shots at the Islanders.

The teams meet again on Sunday at the John Rhodes Community Centre at 7:30 p.m. in the second half of a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League home-and-home set.
