The Soo Thunder are looking good in the Northern Ontario Bantam Hockey League standings after a huge road sweep this past weekend against the Onaping Falls Huskies.

Battling the Huskies for top spot, the Thunder captured the three-game set by scores of 6-4, 5-0 and 6-2.

The Thunder, 17-2 in league play, now finds themselves tied with the Huskies for first place with 34 points each although the Soo has three games in hand. The teams will meet again in the Sault for a trio of games January 14-15.

Tyler Hawdon and Drew MacMillan scored twice each in the opener while Richard MacLennan and Sean Stubbs added singles. Michael Doan recorded the shutout in goal in the 5-0 win while MacMillan and Dereck Hurley scored two goals each and Matthew Amadio notched another. In the 6-2 finale, Brett Thompson and MacMillan scored twice while Amadio and Hurley added one each.

The Thunder headed to Onaping Falls after another successful weekend at home at the Rankin Arena where the Thunder swept a three-game series with Timmins.

The locals are back home this weekend for three games against North Bay. Games times are Saturday at 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. while Sunday’s contest begins at noon. All games are at the Rankin Arena.

The Thunder, who are headed overseas during the holidays for games in Sweden and Finland, will then take a break from league play until the series with the Huskies in January.
