Third place finishes for Sault at NOSSA curling

The White Pines Wolverines boys and Korah Colts girls curling teams placed third on Tuesday morning at the NOSSA Curling Championships in North Bay.

The Wolverines team, made up of Brett Punkari, Brendan Hodgson, Nick Katajamaki and Ben Morphet, made it to the semi-finals where they would lose to the eventual champions from Lockerby of Sudbury 7-4.

The Punkari rink lost their first matchup to Chippewa of North Bay before beating Elliot Lake and C.A.S.S. to make it to the semi-finals.

The other Sault Ste. Marie team from Notre Dame des Grand Lacs, made up of Alex Porter, Stephane Beaulieu, Mark Dugas and Martin Valiquette, lost their three games at the event to C.A.S.S., North Bay's Franco-Cite and Elliot Lake.

In the Girls bracket, Korah's Jessica Merrifield, Linda Dear, Natasha Nevin, Tasha Hanushuk and Cassandra Tucchett, finished up in third place after dropping 9-2 decision to the eventual runner-up team from Elliot Lake.

Korah had lost to Elliot Lake in their first game of the tournament before beating Northern and Chippewa of North Bay in their following games.

Sir James Dunn's team of Brianne Manson, Dana Iucier, Mackenzie Rice and Alexandra Laudanino, dropped their three contests at the event to Chippewa, C.A.S.S. and Northern.
