Team Jacobs opened the Masters in Alberta with a pair of victories on Wednesday

Brad Jacobs and his team from the Community First Curling Centre locally is in the midst of the first Grand Slam of Curling event of the season.

Team Jacobs, which includes third Ryan Fry, second E.J. Harnden and lead Ryan Harnden, opened action at the Masters in Okotoks, Ab. with a pair of games on Wednesday.

The team opened its four-game round robin schedule with a 4-2 victory over Sweden’s Niklas Edin. Trailing 2-1 with the hammer in the final end, Jacobs scored a triple-runback-double for three to pick up the victory.

Jacobs wrapped up the day with a 4-3 extra end win over Glenn Howard. Tied at one with the hammer, The Jacobs rink scored a pair in the sixth end to take a 3-1 lead. After blanking the seventh end, Howard would force the extra end with a pair in the eighth end.

Team Jacobs is back in action on Thursday afternoon against Mark Nichols of Newfoundland and Labrador before wrapping up the round robin on Friday afternoon against Edmonton’s Brendan Bottcher.

The tournament features 15 men’s and women’s teams and teams are split into three groups of five teams. The top eight teams on each side qualify for the playoff round.
