Strong showing for three local figure skaters at Brampton competition

Weekend event was one of several qualifying competitions offered by Skate Ontario

Three senior figure skaters represented the Lake Superior Figure Skating Club (LSFSC) at Skate Ontario Provincial Series Competition in Brampton this weekend.

The results included:

  • Addyson Atkinson who placed 4th in Star 7 O12 short program
  • Elena Nelson who placed 10th in Star 7 O12 short program and 12th in Pre-Juvenile U13 free skate
  • Yvonne Barnes who placed 3rd in Novice free skate

The competition is one of several qualifying events offered by Skate Ontario, where skaters vying for a spot to compete at the Skate Ontario Provincial Championships.

This year Provincials will be held in Brampton from March 22 to 24 for Star 5-Gold and Pre-Juvenile to Senior.

“Our skaters have been working hard to reach their goal of qualifying for the Skate Ontario Provincial Championships. Yvonne, Elena and Addyson competed very well this past weekend. Competing in Brampton has prepared them for the final qualifier in Thunder Bay," LSFSC head coach Kerry Bain said in a news release.

The next Skate Ontario Provincial Series competition for LSFSC skaters will be Thunder Bay Open March 1 to 3.

LSFSC adult figure skaters Rebecca Harasym and Shalee Calvert-Roy will be competing at the Skate Ontario Adult Championships in Kanata from March 1 and 2.
