Steelhawks slide past Knights in high school football

A 38-yard touchdown run by Max Fisher gave Superior Heights a 9-7 win over the Knights in the second game of the season for both teams.

Fisher’s touchdown run came late in the opening half and put the Steelhawks up 9-0 at the time after St. Mary’s conceded a safety earlier in the second quarter.

St. Mary’s quarterback Joel Soltys, who filled in as the Knights starter for Johnny Hammond in Saturday’s game, hit Greg Caruso for a 19-yard touchdown strike in the final minute of the second quarter for the lone St. Mary’s major of the contest.

Saturday’s other senior football game saw Evan Bodnar throw three touchdown passes as the Korah Colts beat White Pines 30-0.

Following Saturday’s results, Superior Heights is 2-0 through two weeks while St. Mary’s and Korah are 1-1. White Pines is 0-2.

In junior football action over the weekend St. Mary’s beat Superior Heights 26-21.

Senior football action continues on Thursday when Korah faces Superior Heights in a 4:30 p.m. kickoff at Superior Heights.

Friday will see St. Mary’s face White Pines at 7 p.m. at Rocky DiPietro Field.

Junior action this week will see Korah face Superior Heights on Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Superior Heights.
