Another quick start was the difference as the Superior Heights Steelhawks remain unbeaten in senior high school football action.

Superior Heights held a 24-0 lead at the half and beat the White Pines Wolverines 45-7 on Thursday evening to improve to 4-0.

“On defence, we were suffocating,” said Steelhawks Coach Seth Cond. “We try to put our opponents in tough situations and long-down situations and we did that consistently which made it difficult for (White Pines) to get any momentum on offence.”

Cond also credited the Steelhawks special teams and offensive game but said that discipline was a big positive in the game.

“We were a lot more disciplined,” said Cond. “That’s been a focal point for us to try to improve on.”

Cooper Lafromboise ran for a pair of touchdowns (six and two yards) for the Steelhawks. Elijah Yandeau also had a rushing touchdown, running the ball in from 33 yards out. He finished the day with 88 yards rushing on eight carries.

Isaac Belsito had a five-yard touchdown run and also caught an eight-yard pass for a major. Noah Grigg hooked up with Robert Right for a 51-yard pass and run for the other Steelhawks major.

For White Pines Coach Marco Bernabucci, a tough start shadowed an effort he was pleased with overall.

“I was happy with the effort,” Bernabucci said. “We’ve got to come out stronger. (In three games) we’ve come out flat. Coming out flat is really dropping us behind the eight-ball.”

Isaac Smithers had the lone White Pines touchdown on a 37-yard pass and run play.

The loss drops the Wolverines to 0-4.

The senior high school football schedule continues on Friday night at St. Mary’s faces Korah at 5 p.m. at Superior Heights.
