The Sault Steelers used a solid team approach to silence the Toronto Maddogs and cruise to their third Northern Football Conference victory of the season.

Led by their stifling defense and another solid rushing performance by Toby Traveson, the Steelers held on for a 21-15 win on Saturday night at Rocky DiPietro Field to improve to 3-1 on the season.

The Steelers now sit in a three-way tie for second place with Oshawa and Oakville.

Traveson gave the Steelers a first quarter lead with a 20 yard run before Andrew Posteraro regained the blocked convert by booting a single on the following kickoff for a 7-0 lead.

In the second half, Kareen Pollydore tied the score with a 45 yard punt return before the Steelers regrouped for the win.

Tim Higgins caught a 50 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Travis McLean before Traveson sealed the victory on a five yard run late in the fourth quarter. Posteraro added both converts.

The Maddogs kept things interesting late as Pollydore hauled in a 10 yard pass from Paul Martin and Nathan Gorham caught a two point covert with 1:37 remaining but the Steelers effectively ran out the rest of the clock.

The Steelers will now enjoy a bye before returning to Rocky DiPietro Field to host the Quinte Limestone Panthers on Saturday, July 9 at 7 p.m.

FURTHER DETAILS WILL BE ADDED.
