Could this be the year of the Sault Steelers?

With what the Steelers call their biggest win since returning to the Northern Football Conference, the locals secured home field advantage in the playoffs right through to the championship game.

On Saturday night in Toronto, the tough Steelers defense shut down the Toronto Maddogs and led the team to a 7-0 win to claim first place overall with a 7-1 record.

The playoffs begin this coming Saturday as the Toronto Raiders make the trip north for the second time in three weeks to face the Steelers in a quarterfinal matchup at 7 p.m. at Rocky DiPietro Field.

The eventual winner will face the victor of the other North/Central division playoff game between the Maddogs and the Oshawa Hawkeyes.

In the South division, Sudbury will cross over to meet Milton and Tri City battles Oakville.

North Bay, Sarnia and Quinte failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Further details from the Steelers win over Toronto will be added later when they become available.
