Steelers game cancelled

The final home game of the Northern Football Conference regular season for the Sault Steelers won’t happen.

The final home game of the Northern Football Conference regular season for the Sault Steelers won’t happen.

Scheduled to face the Montreal Transit on Saturday night at Rocky DiPietro field, the Transit forfeited the game due to a lack of players available to make the trip to Sault Ste. Marie.

The forfeited win improves the Steelers record to 2-4 as they head into their final two games of the season, both on the road.

The Steelers travel to Sudbury next weekend to take on the Spartans before wrapping up the regular season on July 25 when they are in Sarnia to face the Imperials.

The Transit, who fall to 4-2 with the loss, are currently in a battle with the G.T.A. All Stars and Ottawa Invaders atop the NFC’s East Division. G.T.A. sits at 5-0 while Ottawa is 4-1. The two teams meet tonight in Ottawa.

Other games in the NFC on Saturday include the Sarnia Imperials (4-1) traveling to Hamilton to take on the Steel City Patriots (2-3), the Oakville Longhorns (0-5) host the Toronto Raiders (1-3) and in Sudbury, the Spartans (3-2) host the Tri-City Outlaws (1-4).
