The St. Mary's Knights senior girls basketball team came within two baskets of becoming provincial champions.

In the OFSAA AA championship game in Temiskaming Shores, the Knights, ranked second in the province, fell 45-41 to first ranked General Amherst on Saturday afternoon.

Kathleen Thorburn scored 13 points to lead the Knights, who received silver medals, in the final.

The Knights were leading after the third quarter 30-29. In the fourth quarter, the lead changed hands numerous times until General Amherst hit several clutch free throws to take the lead and clinch the victory.

Kira Favaro chipped in with 10 points and Brit Denneny contributed seven.

The Knights made school history by becoming the first girls team to compete in an OFSSA Final. The senior Knights finshed the year with a 29-4 overall record.
