St. Mary's captures bronze at OFSAA

St. Mary's rebounded from a semifinal loss to win bronze at OFSAA curling

The St. Mary’s curling team will return home with a medal from the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) curling championship in North Bay.

The St. Mary’s team of skip Nick Lemieux, vice Jake Reid, second Andrew Berg and lead Taylor Longo beat Cite Des Jeunes of Kapuskasing 5-3 to win bronze on Saturday.

St. Mary’s rebounded after dropping a 6-4 decision to Almonte High School on Saturday morning in semifinal action.

In quarter-final action on Friday, St. Mary’s beat North Bay’s Widdifield 7-3.

St. Mary’s finished the round robin with a 4-1 record, which included wins over Central Huron Secondary School, Aldershott High School, Almonte and Port Perry. The lone St. Mary’s round robin loss came at the hands of Georgian Bay District Secondary School on the opening day of the four-day event.
