St. Joe's nips Echo Bay in CASS tourney final

St. Joseph Island Public School Stingers defeated the Echo Bay Eagles 30-26 to win the 9th annual Elementary Boys Basketball Tournament. The score was 16-15 at the half for the Stingers.

St. Joseph Island Public School Stingers defeated the Echo Bay Eagles 30-26 to win the 9th annual Elementary Boys Basketball Tournament.

The score was 16-15 at the half for the Stingers. Josh Armstrong led all scorers with 14 points for the Island while Jordan Henderson chipped in with 8. Kurtis Barbarie with 12 points and Brandon Trotter with 6 led Echo Bay.

In the semi-finals, Echo Bay defeated Esten Park of Elliot Lake 41-30. Ryan Shackleton had 16 points for Echo Bay while Ryan Smith had 11 for Elliot Lake.

In the other semi-final game, St. Joseph Island defeated Thessalon 31-26 . Josh Armstrong had 11 points for the Island while Matthew Jones had 10 for the Thessalon Thunder.

Other schools participating were the Laird Lions, Johnson Jaguars, Arthur Henderson Hawks and the Iron Bridge Chargers.

The Central Algoma Family Of Schools Free Throw championship will be held in conjunction with the Elementary Basketball Championships. The Boys go April 26 and the Girls on April 27 from 11am - 2:30 pm at CASS. The Free Throw Championship is sponsored by Joel Tarantini of Coca Cola and CASS Athletics.
