St. Basil, SMC, MSJC emerge with basketball victories

The St. Basil Saints, St. Mary's Knights and Mount St. Joseph College Royals all cruised to victories as the Girls High School Basketball League opened their third week of play on Tuesday.

The St. Basil Saints, St. Mary's Knights and Mount St. Joseph College Royals all cruised to victories as the Girls High School Basketball League opened their third week of play on Tuesday.

At Sir James Dunn, the Saints opened with a 55-36 win in junior before rolling past the Eagles in senior 69-28.

Samantha Rainone topped the senior Saints with 18 points and Katie Larue added 16 while Sarah Miller replied with 11 for the Eagles. In junior, Angela Bruni scored 24 points for the winners and Corina Bruni added 16. Leanna Turchet paced the junior Eagles with 13 points.

At White Pines, the Knights hammered the Wolverines 53-8 in junior before cruising to a 42-19 win in senior. Brianna Mandolesi scored 13 points for St. Mary's in junior while Tessa Kasch added eight.

Scoring details from the senior contest were not available.

In a lone senior match up at Bawating, the Royals edged the Bawating Braves 41-30 on the strength of 15 points from Vanessa Chaimbrone and 12 from Miranda Chaimbrone. Amanda Whitmell led the Braves with 11 points while Lindsey Everett added eight.
