SSMAC'S JOSH LAWRENCE HAS PERFECT PERFORMANCE AT DOLPHIN'S SWIM MEET

Josh Lawrence, 14, was one of many Sault Ste. Marie Aquatic Club athletes to swim gold medal races at the North Eastern Ontario Region (NEOR) developmental meet, hosted by the Soo Y Dolphins over the weekend at the John Rhodes Community Pool.

Lawrence was strong, winning every freestyle event in his age category, capturing gold in the 50-, 100-, 200-, 400- and 800-metre freestyle events. Lawrence also won the 100-metre backstroke and the 400-metre individual medley. Teammate Brian Lee, 13, secured first in the 50-metre freestyle, the 50-metre backstroke and the 200-metre individual medley.

Sarah Theodossiou, 13, was impressive with first place finishes in the 50-metre and 100-metre freestyle events. Theodossiou secured second spot in four other races. Christopher Carlyle, 11, emerged at the top of the pack in the 50-metre and 100-metre freestyle events, and also came first in the 50-metre butterfly and the 100-metre individual medley. Older brother Jack Carlyle, 13, was strong with four top-three results.

Samantha Felik, 15, had multiple first place finishes with gold medals in the 50-, 100- and 200-metre breaststroke events, along with the 50-metre butterfly. Up-and-coming swimmer Kalen Critchley, 10, had four first place finishes and a second, while teammate Chenoa Naylor found gold in two races and silver in two others. Hannah Murray, age 11, won the 50-metre and the 100-metre backstroke events and placed second in three other races.

Siblings Erin (9) and Steven (11) Lee had solid performances over the weekend, each winning races in their respective age groups.

Kendall Barban, 13, had first place results in the 50- and 100-metre butterfly and came third in the 100- and 200-metre freestyle events. Kailee Valois, (girls' 11-12 age category) won the 50-, 100- and 200-metre butterfly races, and placed third in the 100-metre freestyle.

Andrew Dipsell, 14, won the 50-, 100- and 200-metre breaststroke events and placed second in the freestyle distance swim of 800-metres. Miranda MacRae, 15, came second in three breaststroke events, and secured third in the 200-metre individual medley. Rayne Fisher, 12, won the 50-metre breaststroke race and had bronze medal races in the 100- and 200-metre breaststroke.

Shane Rock, 11, garnered gold in the 50-metre backstroke and silver in the 200-metre freestyle. Sarah Mathews, was second in the 50-metre butterfly and third in the 50-metre breaststroke and 50-metre backstroke events.

Devon Cavanagh, 14, had third place finishes in the 50-metre butterfly and the 800-metre freestyle. David Pihlaja, 14, came second in the 400-metre freestyle and third in the 50-metre freestyle.

Jennifer Glassford, 13, won a bronze medal in the 50-metre butterfly and had three other top-eight placements. Michael Lawrence, 12, placed second in the 800-metre freestyle and in the 100-metre individual medley events.

Lydia Murray, 9, secured second spot in the 50-metre breaststroke, while teammate Erinn Theodossiou, 9, placed third in the same event. Sarah Wright, 10, won bronze in the 100-metre breaststroke. Sherri Lamkin, 12, had a silver in the 50-metre backstroke and a bronze in the 400-metre freestyle. Logan Naccarato, 9, placed third in the 200-metre freestyle.

Brendan Wilton, 12, earned two third-place finishes in breaststroke events, while Celine Gregoire, 12, earned third in the 50-metre fly. Alexander Gelmych, 7, sprinted his way to a gold medal finish in the 25-metre freestyle. Dante Severini, 8, won silver in the 25-metre breaststroke. Noah Janzen, 7, won a bronze in the 25-metre freestyle.

Other Aquatic Club members to earn top-eight finishes include: Micah Barban, Marissa Lobert, Amelia Marrato, Tyler Smith, Aron Mahammadi, Megan Shaw, Mychael-Anne Francis, Shelby Diotte, Spencer Bordin, Courtney Dipsell, Kristjan Luik and Anas Abou-Zaid. The SSMAC Coaches were very proud of their swimmers and impressed with the depth of talent throughout the club.
