SSMAC Swimmers Win Big In Sudbury

A 20-member contingent from the Sault Ste. Marie Aquatic Club traveled to Sudbury over the weekend to kick off their Long Course swim season in the Northeastern Ontario Regional Meet #4.

Leading the pack with exemplary results was Brian Lee, age 14. Lee won the 100-metre freestyle, the 100-metre backstroke, the 100-metre breaststroke, as well as the 400-metre individual medley. Lee placed second in the 200-metre butterfly.

Other swimmers to earn medals include Becky Day, age 14, who swam to a gold medal finish in the 100-metre backstroke and the 400-metre individual medley. Day placed second in the 100-metre butterfly. Julia Turgeon, age 14, garnered three bronze medals and placed fourth in another race.

In the boys' 11 and under age category, Steven Lee placed first in the 50-metre breaststroke and third in the 50-metre butterfly and the 50-metre backstroke. Shane Rock had three-second place results, as well as a third. Spencer Bordin placed fourth in the 50-metre breaststroke. Aaron Mohammadi found seventh spot in the 50-metre breaststroke.

Michael Lawrence, Brendan Wilton and Matt Dipsell faired well in the boys' 12-year old competition. Lawrence had three fourth place finishes, with Wilton securing a fifth and four sixths, and Dipsell placing sixth in the 50-metre breaststroke.

Competing in the girls'10 and under age category, Kalen Critchley placed third in the 50-metre freestyle, the 50-metre backstroke and the 50-metre butterfly. Chenoa Naylor placed fourth in three races. Erin Lee raced to four top-eight placements.

Thomas Castles, age 14, was sixth in the 100-metre freestyle, the 100-metre backstroke and the 400-metre individual medley.

Other swimmers to compete and produce personal best swims include: Celine Gregoire, Courtney Dipsell, Logan Naccarato, Mychael-Anne Francis, Erin Theodossiou and Sherri Lambkin.

SSMAC's next major competition is the Division 2 Team Championships in April, hosted by the Sudbury Laurentian Swim Club.
