Sault youth to swim up to 5 km in two hours to support local aquatics club

Swim-A-Thon, the national fundraising project for Canadian swim clubs, is coming to the Sault Ste. Marie Aquatic Club, (SSMAC). Some 60 young people, ranging in ages from 6 to 18 years, will swim up to 200 lengths in two hours. That’s 5 km of swimming.

Swimmers are busy canvassing this month and will hit the water Saturday March 25 for the marathon two-hour swim. Donations will benefit all members by helping reduce the costs of swim meets and regular club operations.

SSMAC was formed in 1978 and ranks among the best small competitive swim teams in Canada. Its goal is to develop a strong team and community spirit founded upon fellowship and good sportsmanship. The club offers programs for a variety of ages and skill levels.

The club is asking the community to support local swimming - the activity that keeps kids healthy today and fit for the future.

Donations are tax deductible. Anyone interested in making a pledge to Swim-A-Thon should contact the SSMAC office at 941-9880.
