SSMAC enjoys several personal bests

The Sault Ste. Marie Aquatic Club entered 39 swimmers in the North East Ontario Regional Developmental Meet #2, hosted by the Soo Y Dolphins over the weekend, emerging with multiple personal bests for many swimmers.

In Pre-Provincial action, Christopher Carlyle, 10, garnered four first-place results and a second-place finish while picking up three best times. Carrie-Lynne Smale, 10, finished in top spot in four races and was runner-up in two others. Ten-year-old Hannah Murray won three races while placing second in three others. Chelsea Griswold, 14, had two firsts, two seconds and a third while registering best times in all six races she entered.

Others to register two first place finishes included Julia DeFelice, 13, (along with a pair of seconds), Cary Matthews, 12, (along with four best times), Peter Olinger, 16, (to go with two seconds and two thirds).

Julia Turgeon, 12, finished second five times and placed third on another occasion while registering four personal bests.

Others to register top-three performances included Jack Carlyle, 12, Sara Matthews, 10, Claire McCarthy, 10, Adam Mossa, 12, and Jessica Nicastro, 17.

In Developmental action, Erin Lee, 8, won four races (to go along with second and third-place finishes). Andrew Dipsell, 13, had three firsts, two seconds and a third. Michael Lawrence, 11, placed first three times. He also had second and third-place performances. Kellie Geiling, 13, had a pair of firsts, to go along with a third.

Others garnering top-three finishes were Kendall Barban, 12, Spencer Bordin, 8, Devon Cavanagh, 13, Kalen Critchley, 9, Rayne Fisher, 11, Ryan Griswold, 11, Marissa Lobert, 10, Amelia Marrato, 10, Elyse McCarthy, 13, David Pilajha, 13, Shane Rock, 10, Amy Sullivan, 11, Kailee Valois, 11, and Brendan Wilton, 11.

There were seven teams entered in the competition, which attracted 143 swimmers.

"This was a good meet, particularly for some of our younger swimmers," says Coach Nancy Day. "The results show that several of our club members really came into their own during this meet. Even some of our more experienced swimmers had more than one best time. This shows that our swimmers have been working hard in practice."
