SSMAC competes with small but mighty force

Alexandra Tracy recorded six first-place results en route to high point honours in her age category to help the Sault Ste. Marie Aquatic Club to a second place finish among small teams entered in the North Bay Invitational Meet over the weekend.

Tracy, swimming in the 10 and under girls' category, was victorious in the 100-metre individual medley, the 25-metre backstroke, the 100-metre freestyle, the 50-metre breaststroke, the 50-metre backstroke, and the 100-metre breaststroke.

She was also second in the 25-metre freestyle.

Hannah Murray won the 25- and 50-metre freestyle and the 25-metre butterfly, while placing second in four races and third in another. She was second in the high points race in the 10 and under girls' competition.

Erin Lee finished second in high points in the eight and under girls competition with a first-place finish in the 25-metre backstroke, six second-place results, and a third.

Steven Lee was second in the boys' 10 and under high points race on the strength of one first-place finish, two seconds and five thirds.

Lindsay Tracey, swimming in the 8 and under girls' category had third-place finishes in the 25-metre backstroke and the 50-metre breaststroke.

Kailie Valois, swimming in the 10 and under girls age range, placed third in the 50-metre freestyle.

The girls' 9-10 relay team won both the free and medley relays.

In the Ironman portion of the competition, Alex Bonne won the high point trophy in the boys' 15 and over age range with four first place finishes - in the 1,500 metre freestyle, the 400-metre individual medley, and the 400- and 800-metre freestyle. Bonne was also second in the 200-metre butterfly.

Brian Lee captured the same honour in the boys' 11-12 age category with first-place finishes in the 1,500-metre freestyle, the 400-metre individual medley, and the 400- and 800-metre freestyle. He was second in the 200-metre butterfly.

Patrick Bonne was third in the 11-12 age range high point trophy race with two second- and two third-place results.

Coach Bill Park was enthused with the results.

"This was a meet for our younger kids to be in the spotlight and they swam extremely well. This will put them in good form for long-course championships in two weeks," he says.

"It was an all-round awesome performance with better than 90 per cent best times recorded."
