Sparked by an 11 point effort from Danah Viotto, Sports Gold captured the Algoma Basketball Association Women's Basketball League championship on Thursday night.

Viotto led all scorers as Sports Gold defeated Brody's 31-22 in the final tilt at Sault College.

Jessica King added six points for the winners while Stella Viotto and Lisa Medaglia added four each.

Aine Coccimiglio paced Brody's with eight points while Heidi Jaaskelainen added six and Claudia Hrywenowicz four.

Brody's advanced to the championship game with a 45-24 win over Primo Pizza in the semi-final game earlier in the evening.

Jaaskelainen topped all scorers with 23 points while Coccimiglio added 10 and Nancy Iacoe six for the winners.

Laura DiDonato led Primo Pizza with eight points, Katie Larue poured in seven points and Amanda Vernelli five.

On Tuesday night, the league capped its regular season with a pair of games.

In the opener, Brody's beat Primo Pizza 50-32 as Jaaskelainen drained a game high 23 points. Iacoe and Hrywenowicz added eight points each.

DiDonato lead Primo Pizza with 10 points, Samantha Rainone added eight and Rachel Cobean seven.

In the second game, Sports Gold rolled past Sal-Dan Developments 70-44 on the strength of 22 points from King.

Danah Viotto added 17 points while Stella Viotto and Jenn Sweezey chipped in 10 each.

Jessica Stone paced Sal-Dan with 21 points, Ashley Whitmell added 11 and Sarah Fortais eight.
