Spits trade Downie to Petes for Peter Aston and picks

November, 09, 2005 -- (Windsor) The Windsor Spitfires today announced that the Spitfires have acquired defenseman Peter Aston from the Peterborough Petes as well as the Petes 2nd and 5th Round Selections in the OHL Priority Selection in 2006 and a 2nd round selection in 2007. In exchange, the Spitfires sent centre Steve Downie to Peterborough.

Last month, Aston was named the OHL Defenseman of the Month.

Petes Acquire Steve Downie From Windsor Spitfires

November 9, 2005 -- The Peterborough Petes have acquired veteran forward Steve Downie from the Windsor Spitfires in exchange for defenceman Peter Aston, and three draft picks. (2nd & 5th’s in 2006, and 2nd in 2007.)

Downie, the Spits third leading scorer last season recording 21 goals and 73 points in 61 games, while accumulating 179 penalty minutes has recorded 28 goals and 89 points in two seasons playing in 110 Ontario Hockey League games.

The native of Queensville, Ontario is a first round draft pick of the Philadelphia Flyers, and a candidate to play for Team Canada at the World Junior Championship in Vancouver at Christmas. Downie attended the Hockey Canada Summer Evaluation camp in Calgary with Petes forward Liam Reddox.
