Soo Selects name this year's award winners

SOO SELECT BASEBALL ASSOCIATION

The Soo Select Baseball Association and the Ontario Baseball Association are proud to announce this years Player, Pitcher, Coach, Umpire & Volunteer of the year.

* This year's Player of the Year is Tyler Binkley. Tyler played on the Cambrian Mazda Midget Black Sox this year. Tyler also represented Ontario at the recent Canada Cup and helped pitch the team to a Gold Medal. Tyler will also be attending the National Junior Team tryouts this year. Tyler receives a autographed Miguel Batista baseball from the Toronto Blue Jays.

* Pitcher of the Year is Christopher Buonomo. Christopher played for the Sports Gold Pee Wee Black Sox. Christopher is a hard throwing right hander who helped lead his team to the regular season and playoff championships along with tournament championships in Rudyard and Leamington this year. Christopher wins an autographed Ron Taylor baseball from the Ontario Baseball Association. Ron Taylor is a Canadian born pitcher with his major league career spanning 10 years from 1962-1972.

* Coach of the Year is Ryan Johns. Ryan coached the Cambrian Mazda Midget Black Sox this year to capture back-to-back Midget Provincial "A" Championship Crowns. Ryan receives a autographed Jim Fanning baseball. Mr. Fanning spent more than 25 years with the Montréal Expos organization as a player and manager. He was instrumental in helping develop baseball in Canada.

* Umpire of the Year is Lynn Cond. Lynn has been umpiring baseball for the Soo Minor Baseball Association for several years now. Lynn has held coaching positions in the past and continues to umpire at a high level every year. Lynn receives an autographed baseball from the Ontario Baseball Association, signed by current major league baseball umpires Mike Carlson, Mike DiMuro, Brian Gorman & Joe West.

* Volunteer of the Year is Graham Newman. Graham has volunteered his time and resources to both the Soo Minor Baseball Association and Soo Selects year after year. Graham puts in volunteer time each season to the operation, upkeep and maintenance of Sinclair Yards and can often be seen working on a field throughout the year. Graham receives an autographed Reno Bertoia baseball from the Ontario Baseball Association. Reno Bertoia was raised in Windsor Ont, and played 10 years in the major leagues.
