Soo Selects announce award winners

The Soo Select Baseball Association, a division of the Soo Minor Baseball Association, have announced their award winners for the 2004 season.

The Ontario Baseball Association has supplied autographed baseballs to each winner.

* Tyler Binkley, from the Midget Selects, was chosen as the 2004 player of the year. Binkley will receive an autographed Josh Towers baseball from the Toronto Blue Jays.

* Brian MacDonald, from the Pee Wee Selects, was named pitcher of the year and will receive an autographed ball from Canadian hall of fame pitcher Fergie Jenkins.

* Jaysson Piercy, from the Midget Selects, was selected as coach of the year and will receive an autographed ball from Canada's National Baseball Program Manager and former Blue Jay catcher Ernie Whitt.

* Lucas Bedell was picked as umpire of the year and will receive a ball autographed by pro umpires Ron Kulpa, Dale Scott, Bill Miller and Brian Gorman.

* Dave Watson was named as volunteer of the year and will receive an autographed ball from Reno Peter Bertoia, a Windsor native who played 10 major league seasons with Detroit, Minnesota, Washington and Kansas City.
