Members of the Searchmont Ski Runners have recorded some impressive finishes at the Canadian championships.

On Tuesday at the Mackenzie Financial K1 Provincial Championships for 11 and 12 year-old skiers, Meghan DiAngelo paced the Ski Runners with an eighth place finish in the women's slalom. Jillian Keast finished 17th while Courtney Rains did not finish.

The Craigleith Ski Club's Madison Irwin captured her second consecutive gold.

Matthew Horbatuk led the boys side with a 20th place finish. Georgian Peak's Richard Long won the gold medal.

In Monday's giant slalom event, Keast led Searchmont with a 14th place finish. A strong second run for Keast vaulted the Sudbury native up eight spots on the leader board. Rains finished 33rd while DiAngelo did not finish.

Horbatuk finished 24th in the boys field behind winner Michael Welton of Collingwood's Osler Bluff Ski Club.

*** JUVENILE CHAMPIONSHIPS:

After the opening run of the super G event at the MARS Canadian Juvenile Alpine Ski Championships was canceled on Tuesday due to a winter storm in Banff, the three competing members from the Ski Runners hit the slopes on Wednesday.

Kaitlyn Fitzpatrick topped the Searchmont field with a 38th place finish on the women's side. David Ghent-Kyle led the men with a 53rd place finish while Greg Moser finished 67th.

Ontario's Braden Long captured the men's gold medal while Quebec's Michele-Marie Gagnon claimed the women's gold.

After a training run on Thursday, action will continue with the giant slalom event on Friday and the slalom on Saturday at Mount Norquay in Banff.
