Six local teams advance to Steel City finals (Updated)

Six local teams remain in contention after the semi-final round at the 24th Annual Steel City International Hockey Tournament on Sunday morning.

The Soo North Stars have advanced to the championship game after a 4-1 win over Detroit's Compuware 89's.

The North Stars will face the Soo Indians, 4-2 winners over Sudbury, in the final at 3:30 p.m. at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

The North Stars built a 3-0 first period lead on goals by Paul Dupont, Tyler Gendron shorthanded and Nick Lang.

Brad DiCandia also scored for the winners while Trevor McNutt added a pair of assists. Ryan Dube recorded the win in goal.

In Midget AA, Littner's Park advanced to the final to play Toronto East End at 3 p.m. at the Rankin Arena after a 4-3 win over Current River in overtime.

Toronto defeated the Sault's Mr. Sub 5-1 in the other semi-final game.

In an all-Sault final in Bantam AA, the Blueliners Blackhawks will face the Pino's Titans at 1 p.m. at the Rankin.

Blueliners advanced with a 3-2 win over the South End Rangers while Pino's doubled the Sault's S&T Lightning 6-3.

The Soo Thunder face the Marquette American Legion at 1 p.m. at the Rhodes in the Bantam AAA Minor final while the Soo Bantam Greyhounds face the Motor City Jr. Chiefs at 3 p.m. at the Rhodes in the Bantam AAA Major championship.

In the Midget AAA Minor division final, the Midland Northstars will meet the Markham Waxers at 1:30 p.m. at the Rhodes.
