SAULT FEMALE HOCKEY ASSOCIATION

*************************

The Sault Female Hockey Association held their first ever, hopefully to become an annual, Christmas Classic Hockey Tournament for the Pee Wee Houseleague Division girls the weekend of Dec. 28 - 30. The format involved a mini round robin, followed by a single Championship game for Gold and a single game for Bronze. The tournament proved to be very successful and ended with Headlines Hair & Day Spa coming out as Champions. Round robin play got underway Dec. 28 with Meyers Munchies just getting by Stitch King by a 3 - 2 score. Jenna Carlucci had a goal and two assists to lead the Meyers scoring attack, Larissa Carlucci had a goal and one helper, Heather Pine had the other Meyers goal. Kaitlin Lambert-Mousseau and Emily Hodgson each picked up one assist. Paige Trecroce scored both Stitch King goals with Juliana Lesage-Corbiere picking up two assists. Game MVP for each team were Alyssa Jones for Meyers and Brooke Boissonneau for Stitch King. Game two had Headlines blanking Purvis Marine 4 - 0. Taylor Bellini lead the Headlines charge with two goals, single goals went to Darcee McCaig and Taylor Maitland. Sarah Fenos picked up two assists while McCaig picked up one, Adriana Bressan earned the shut-out. Game MVP's were Taylor Bellini for Headlines and Jenna Malkki for Purvis. Action resumed on Dec. 29 with Headlines squeezing past Meyers by a 3 - 2 score. Taylor Bellini and Taylor Maitland each had a goal and assist for Headlines, Megan Girardi had the other goal. Also picking up assists for Headlines were Liliana Bressan and Avery Maitland. For Meyers, Larissa Carlucci and Emily Hodgson had the goals with Alicia Simbirski, Kaitlin Lambert-Mousseau, Heather Pine and Sierra Souliere each earning one assist. Game MVP honours went to Darcee McCaig for Headlines and Emily Hodgson for Meyers. Game two on the afternoon had Stitch King shutting-out Purvis Marine by a 5 - 0 count. Paige Trecroce had a four goal game while Briley Gregory picked up one goal and three assists. Danielle McKenney had two assists with singles going to Daniella Pastore and Kennah Findlay. Brooke Boissoneau was in goal for Stitch King and picked up the shut-out. Game MVP honours went to Paige Trecroce for Stitch King and Purvis goalie Nicole Naccarato. After round robin play and tie breaker rules were put into use, the final match-ups were set, with Headlines taking on Meyers for Gold and Purvis going against Stitch King for the Bronze. The Bronze Medal game was first on the schedule for Dec. 30 and Purvis Marine was able to get some revenge for being shut-out in their two previous games, by shutting down the Stitch King offence in defeating them by a 1 - 0 score. Game MVP Miranda Carlson-Strain scored the Purvis goal with Avery Lundhild picking up an assist. Nicole Naccarato was in the Purvis net and earned the shut-out. The Gold Medal game turned out to be a thrilling, edge of your seat contest between Headlines and Meyers. After three exciting, hard fought periods of action, the game ended in a scoreless tie and was going to be decided by shoot-out. Both goalies were outstanding in their nets, stopping everything that came their way, which forced the shoot-out to go eleven rounds before someone was able to score. After twenty one shooters before her were unable to find the back of the net, Natalie Misasi would score her first goal of the season to give Headlines Hair and Day Spa the victory. Headlines goalie Adiana Bressan and Meyers goalie Tori-Jo Hansen were the very deserving recipients of Game MVP honours. Congratulations to players and staff of all teams for a very entertaining and exciting Christmas Classic Tournament.
