Senior Knights look good in Waterloo

In high school basketball action over the weekend, the St. Mary's Knights senior girls team attended the Wilfrid Laurier University Tournament in Waterloo.

In high school basketball action over the weekend, the St. Mary's Knights senior girls team attended the Wilfrid Laurier University Tournament in Waterloo.

In their first game, the Knights were up against a physical Grand River team but prevailed 39-35. Kathleen Thorburn led all scorers with nine points and Stephanie Colizza chipped in with eight.

In game two, the Knights defeated the Kingston Frontenacs 46-20. Brittany Denneny led the way with 14 points, Steph Colizza helped with 11 and Kira Favaro nine.

In the third game, St. Mary's were upended by a determined St. David's of Waterloo 44-32. Leading scorers were Kathleen Thorburn with 17 points and Kira Favaro with six.

St. Mary's defeated Huntsville 69-22 in their fourth contest. Leading the way were Denneny and Favaro with 12 points each while Julia Burgess and Melissa Thibeault chipped in with eight points apiece.

The Knights were tied in their round robin group with three wins and one loss, but were eliminated from going to the semi's because of their points for and against.

Overall, the Knights had a solid outing against AAA and AAAA schools.
