The Scotiabank pee wee minors won five straight games at the Windsor Minor Hockey Association Tournament to capture the gold medal this past weekend.

It was a hard fought battle right from the start with a 2-1 win against Windsor Local 444 on Friday night. If it wasn't for Windsor's outstanding goaltending duo the score would have been much higher. Scotiabank outshot Windsor 30-5. Aaron Bourdages and David Toppan made up the scoring.

Saturday was a long and tiring day with 3 games on the schedule. The locals beat G&K Services 3-1 and Bertoni Chairs & Things 5-2. In the 2 games, David Toppan netted 3 goals with Philippe Pearson adding a pair and Nicholas Cicchini, Andrew Caicco, and Kyle Carricato potting singles.

The final roundrobin game against the Sault Star Flyers was a must win situation for both teams with the winner advancing to the finals. Both teams played excellent end to end hockey with Scotiabank coming out on top 2-0. Mitchell Hayward-Murray recorded his only shutout of the tournament with David Toppan and Cameron Fall each scoring to cap off the win.

In the championship game, Scotiabank met up against another league rival, the Station Mall Stingrays and came out on top with a 5-1 win. The Stingrays opened up the scoring midway through the first period but was short lived 1 minute later when Andrew Caicco found a loose puck behind the goalie during a scramble and pushed it in. Late in the first David Toppan potted his only goal for the game winner.

After the first period Scotiabank never looked back. They came into the 2nd with great fore-checking and defensive work and it paid off. Mitchell Osborne scored his first goal of the tournament to take a commanding lead.

Rounding off the scoring in the 3rd period was Nathan Foglia and Nicholas Cicchini. Mitchell Hayward-Murray had another outstanding game and posted a 1.00 GAA in the tournament.
