Sault's Hockey Hall of Fame honouring new members Friday night

The 2023 class of inductees includes two builders and a player

Sault Ste. Marie's Hockey Hall of Fame committee has announced that three people will be part of the 2023 induction class.

The latest inductees include a pair of builders and a player:

  • Player category – Tyler Kennedy
  • Builder category – Sherry Bassin
  • Builder category – Paul Boyer

A former captain of the Soo Greyhounds, Kennedy went on to a National Hockey League career that saw him win the Stanley Cup as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

After playing four seasons with the Greyhounds, Kennedy went on to play more than 500 NHL games split between the Penguins, San Jose Sharks, New York Islanders and New Jersey Devils.

Bassin was the architect of the Soo Greyhounds' run to a Memorial Cup championship in 1993.

Bassin joined the Greyhounds ahead of the 1989-90 Ontario Hockey League season following a lengthy stint with the Oshawa Generals. In Bassin's four seasons with the Greyhounds, the team won two OHL championships before ultimately winning the Memorial Cup.

Boyer is currently the head equipment manager of the NHL's Detroit Red Wings.

Boyer has been part of a number of Stanley Cup wins by the Red Wings as well as working with Hockey Canada internationally.

The official induction ceremony will take place on Feb. 2 prior to the Soo Greyhounds game against the Mississauga Steelheads.
