Sault Y Synchro brings home plenty of gold

Sault Ste. Marie's synchronized swim club, Sault "Y" Synchro, have just returned from competition held in Aurora Ontario March 23-25, 2007. The North/Central Ontario meet was represented by 9 synchro clubs and over 120 swimmers.

Sault Ste. Marie's synchronized swim club, Sault "Y" Synchro, have just returned from competition held in Aurora Ontario March 23-25, 2007.

The North/Central Ontario meet was represented by 9 synchro clubs and over 120 swimmers.

The Sault club brought home numerous gold medals including Tier 6 Solo, Meagan Dutchak, who not only placed 1st in the region, but was first overall in her solo performance. Duet masters, include swimmers Christine Powshik and Kelly Powshik also brought home the gold medal. Tier 3 team were 3rd place winners. Swimmers are Martina Brlecic, Sarah Gaines, Taylor Thorkilson, Dominique Valiquette, Danica Desardins, Logan Clark, Samantha Servant and Katrina Lynch. The team is coached by Dianna Spear and Kelly Powshik. In figure competition, results include:

* Tier 2 - Martina Brlecic, 1st in region, 4th overall * Tier 3 - Sarah Gaines, 1st in region, 1st overall; Taylor Thorkilson, 2nd in region, 2nd overall * Tier 3 open - Danica Desjardins, 1st in region, 10th overall; Logan Clark 2nd in region, 14th overall; Samantha Servant 3rd in region, 15th overall; Katrina Lynch 6th in region, 22nd overall * Tier 4 - Dominique Valiquette 1st in region, 13th overall * Tier 6 - Meagan Dutchak, 2nd in region, 5th overall The girls are preparing now for provincial competition which will be held in Nepean, Ontario May 30 - June 3.

There will be a local display following that competition that the public is invited to attend, at the YMCA. The exact date TBA.
