Local Kuk Sool Won students impressed during the Kuk Sool Won World Championship Tournament in Galveston, Texas

The 2018 WKSA Kuk Sool Won World Championship Tournament was held in Galveston, Texas Oct. 6. Over 1,200 competitors from around the world competed for medals, including 10 competitors from Pinder’s Kuk Sool Won Family Martial Arts Centre. Every member of the Sault school’s team earned at least one medal with an overall team achievement of 20 medals, including five gold, four silver, four bronze, and seven fourth place.

2018 is the 60th anniversary of Kuk Sool Won. In Hyuk Suh, the Grandmaster and president of the World Kuk Sool Association, has studied martial arts for over 50 years and was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2018. He has spent his lifetime promoting peace and harmony throughout the world through practicing and teaching Kuk Sool Won. His organization boasts 1.3 million members with over 800 schools worldwide in 27 different countries.

After a long day of competition, there were promotions to 5th and 6th degree black belt master level including the promotion of Sault Ste, Marie, Ontario’s Master Monty Pinder who promoted to 6th degree at the tournament. He was presented for his promotion by his two 4th degree black belt daughters Shannon Eyndhoven and Crystal Nadon.

Also being promoted to 5th degree at the tournament were father and son, Benjamin Forejt and Benjamin Forejt II from Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.

The promotions were followed by an impressive demonstration of techniques, weapons and archery by the visiting Korean demonstration team.
