SSMGC Tumblers Strike Gold

The Sault Ste Marie Gymnastic Club power tumbling team just returned from Burlington, where they competed at the 2nd Ontario Cup Power Tumbling competition.

The 7 SSMGC tumblers returned home with a total of 10 medals, which included 5 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze.

Jaden Cerasuolo, who competes in the Provincial Level 1 Jr Women's category, lead the way once again. Jaden, who won 3 gold medals at the 1st Ontario Cup in December, captured 3 more medals in Burlington this past weekend. She received a gold medal for her first tumbling pass, while receiving a silver medal for her second tumbling pass. Her strong consistency and beautiful lines helped Jaden win a gold medal in the all around competition.

Reilly Turbide and Kaylee Raynor competed in the Provincial Level 2 Jr Women's category. Reilly placed 17th on her first pass, which wasn't the result she was looking for, however she came back strong on her second tumbling pass, where she placed 5th. Overall, Reilly placed 11th respectfully. Kaylee also had a strong day and showed a HUGE improvement from the last competition. Kaylee's best result was on her first tumbling pass, where she placed 12th. Overall, Kaylee finished 17th in a very difficult and competitive category.

Chantal Cinq-Mars and Ashleigh Harrison both competed in the Provincial Level 3 Jr Women's category. Chantal's strong performance lead her to 2 medals. She finished 7th on her first tumbling pass, while capturing a gold medal on her second tumbling pass. Her outstanding performance on her second tumbling pass lead Chantal to a bronze medal in the overall competition. Teammate Ashleigh Harrison had some small errors in her first tumbling pass, however she came back strong with a 11th place showing on her second tumbling pass. Overall, Ashleigh finished 14th.

Bradley Nakamura, who competed in the Provincial Level 3 Men's category, also had a strong day. Bradley turned in a very strong performance on his first tumbling pass, however he took a fall on the landing when he had too much power and tripped on the landing mat when he tried to recover. He then came back with another strong performance on his second tumbling pass with a much better landing, which lead him to a gold medal. Overall, Bradley captured the bronze medal in the overall competition.

Jonathan Mitchell, who is the only National level tumbler at the club, competed in the Novice 15+ Men's category. This was Jonathan's first competition as a National level tumbler. Last year Jonathan competed in the Provincial Level 2 category, where he was crowned Provincial champion at the 2006 Ontario Provincial Championships. Jonathan won a gold medal with a very solid performance on his first tumbling pass. He then ran into some problems on his second tumbling pass resulting in a 4th place finish. Overall, Jonathan's performance landed him on the podium with a bronze medal performance in the overall competition.

Next month the SSMGC power tumbling team will be heading to Barrie for the 3rd Ontario Cup, where they hope to continue their success.
