Sault gymnasts earn podium finishes at Grand Rapids Classic

Over this past weekend, eight competitive gymnasts from the Sault Ste. Marie Gymnastics Club (SSMGC) competed in the Grand Rapids Classic gymnastics competition in Grand Rapids, Mich.  

This was the club's third invitational competition of the season, the club noted in a news release. 

The top finishers of the weekend were Addison Keating, Peyton O'Brien, Ava Greener and Zeegwen Rickard. 

In the Gold Jr. B Division, Keating placed 6th on vault, 6th on bars, 2nd on beam, 1st on floor and rounded out the competition as the gold medallist in her division.  

In the Gold Jr. A Division, O'Brien finished the competition with a 2nd on vault, 2nd on bars, 4th on beam, 3rd on floor was named the all-around champion in her category. 

In the Gold Jr. B Division, Rickard secured 1st on vault, 5th on bars, 7th on beam, 4th on floor and was the bronze medallist in the all-around. This was Rickard's third consecutive meet finishing in the top 3 in the all-around.

In the Platinum Jr. Division, Greener finished with a 4th on vault, 5th on bars, 3rd on beam,  9th on floor which resulted in a 3rd place in the all-around.  

Other noteworthy results from the invitational include:

  • Ivy Mooney- Gold Jr. A Division- 7th on vault, 9th on bars, 7th on floor and 9th all-around
  • Reagan Deschamps- Gold Jr. B Division- 4th on vault, 6th on bars, 8th on beam, 7th on floor and 6th all-around
  • Daiveny Pringle- Gold Sr. A Division- 2nd on vault, 4th on bars, 4th on floor and 5th all-around
  • Emma Little- Silver Jr. B Division- 4th on vault, 1st on bars and 7th all-around

Action continues for the young gymnastics Feb. 23-25 in Lansing, Mich., where they will compete in their last invitational competition at the Drop It Like It's Hot meet hosted by NCAA gymnast Katelyn Ohashi.
