Sault Gym Club raises the bar in Sudbury

Three groups of girls from the Sault Ste Marie Gymnastic Club returned home from Sudbury with great success by capturing 12 medals. The competition, called "Raise the Bar Gym Challenge 2005", was held on April 9-10.

Three groups of girls from the Sault Ste Marie Gymnastic Club returned home from Sudbury with great success by capturing 12 medals.

The competition, called "Raise the Bar Gym Challenge 2005", was held on April 9-10.

Elissa Wilson, Jaden Cerasuolo, Lydia Heimonen, and Kalina Hunter all competed in the Cadette B category, a large category broken down into different groups.

Wilson placed 1st overall while Heimonen placed 2nd overall in their group. Cerasuolo also placed 1st overall with Hunter placing 3rd overall in her group.

All 4 girls are coached by Kaitlin Turner, a new competitive coach at the Gym Club this year.

Brooklyn Wilkins, Sarah DiDonato, and Errin Walls all competed in the Novice A category. Wilkins had a strong performance finishing 2nd overall with DiDonato finishing 7th and Walls 8th.

Their best result was on the uneven bars where DiDonato placed 1st, Walls 2nd and Wilkins 3rd, a clean sweep of the top three spots on uneven bars. Their coach Jeannette Dugas was extremely happy with their performance.

Kara Bruni, also coached by Dugas, competed in the Novice B category and finished 2nd overall. Her top performance was also on the uneven bars, where she scored a 9.3 and finished 1st on that event.

Amanda Dawson and Sarah Reive also competed for Coach Dugas in the Tyro B category, another large field broken ino different groups. Dawson finished 1st overall in her group while Reive finsihed 2nd overall.

Kaylee Raynor competed in the Argo A category, where she finished 2nd overall only 0.04 points out of first.

Raynor had extremely strong performances in both the vault, and uneven bars, where she placed 1st on both events. Raynor is coached by Jocelyn Wilkinson, who is also a new competitive coach in the program this year.

Alison Reive, Maggie Andersen, and Mikayla Wilson competed in the Argo B category. Reive finished 1st overall with Andersen finishing 2nd overall in their group while Wilson finished 1st overall in her group with a very consistent performance on all 4 events.
