The Dundee Wealth Management U16 Girls Civics soccer team won the gold medal at the Sudbury Panhellenic Soccer Tournament this past weekend.

In Round Robin play on Saturday the Firestorm shut out the Sudburnia Wildcats in the tournament opener by a score of 3 to 0 with Jody Gillespie recording the shutout. Carissa Holley scored 2 goals and Heather King scored 1.

In game 2 later in the day a hard fought battle between the Bariie Spirit and the Firestorm ended up scoreless with Gillespie getting her second shutout.

On Sunday morning the Firestorm again came out blazing and beat North Bay United in a 4 to 1 battle ensuring them a place in the final gold medal round of the tournament. Krista Roy got 2 while Heather Bedell and King recorded 1 goal each.

On Sunday afternoon in 90 degree weather the Firestorm came out strong but at the half of the Gold Medal round the game remained scoreless.

At the 20 minute mark of the second half Meghan Diangelo managed to get one by the keeper putting the Sault up by 1 goal. Shortly after Barrie came back with the equalizer. A push by Barrie late in the game gave the Sault a penalty shot and Heather King ensured the gold for the Sault with a bullet beating the Barrie keeper.
