The Sault College Cougars completed their regular season on Wednesday night as they beat the Algoma University College Thunderbirds 98-78 at Sault College.

Jean Louis Ouattara led the Cougars with 30 points while Jeff Rennison chipped in with 19. Nate Whalen and Andrew Turgeon also hit double digits as they scored 16 and 14 points, respectively.

Jason Trinier led Algoma with 18 points while Jarrell Hogan added 16 and Cory Glaister 15.

The Cougars end the season with a 10-4 record and could finish second or third in the standings depending on the outcome of the Lambton and St.Clair contest on February 21.

A Lambton win assures the Cougars of a second place finish while a St. Clair win knocks the Sault down to third due to a higher plus/minus.

No matter what place the Cougars finish, they will be preparing to host a qualifying game on Friday, February 24 at 7 p.m. against an opponent still to be determined.

A victory in the qualifying game would allow the Cougars to make a second straight appearance at the Provincial Championships.

Algoma, meanwhile, saw their season come to an end after posting a 1-13 regular season record.
