OCAA MEN’S BASKETBALL ACTION

In the opening weekend of 2007-2008 OCAA men’s basketball action, the Sault College Cougars played host to the Mohawk Mountaineers.

The Cougars continue their rebuilding process while the Mountaineers look to build on last year's playoff qualification.

The Cougars battled valiantly keeping the game close in the first half with stingy defence and a ball control offence. Repeatedly, the Mohawk squad tried to force the pace of the game to their usual up tempo game with the Cougars keeping their focus on the game plan.

However, as the game continued, Mohawk’s experience and overall team height began to wear on the home squad. In the end, the Cougars fought hard but the Mountaineers' size was just too much as they overpowered the Cougars by a final score of 108–68.

High scorers for the Mountaineers were Mackenzie Milmine with 29 and Tyrone Berry with 19 points, respectively.

For the home squad, strong individual performances of note were veteran Hassan Sulley with 18; while Andel Martin and local product Aaron Richards (Korah) scored 12 and 10 each.

The Cougars continue their road of rebuilding next weekend as they travel down the I-75 for matches against Lambton (Sarnia) and St. Clair (Windsor) Colleges.

The Cougar men return to their home floor next on November 3rd when Humber College visits.
