Sault College drops a pair to St. Clair

Women's Volleyball

In women's play Saturday afternoon, the Sault College Cougars played host to the St. Clair College Saints from Windsor at the Sault College Athletic Centre.

Three close games were enjoyed by the crowd with St. Clair besting our Lady Cougars 3 games to none. Fast paced tempo and long rally points were the norm as both teams battled closely in all three games; with St. Clair having the advantage in each by scores of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-18.

Trisha Whaley lead the Saints in scoring with 15 points including 10 kills, while Jillian Johnson added 9 points. For the Cougars Katrina Zantinge lead the way with 11 points including 10 kills and Kelly Roussell contributed 6 points.

Next action for the ladies is next weekend as they head down I-75 for contests against Lambton College and St. Clair respectively.

Men's Basketball

In men's play Saturday, the cougars played host to St. Clair College from Windsor.

The surging Saints jumped out to an early 18-0 lead in the first 5 minutes and the Cougars struggled to close the gap throughout the game. The Cougars went into the half down 40-21.

In the second half, the cougars battled back with pressure defense to keep the game within reach but ultimately fell to the Saints 90-68.

The Saints were led by game high scorer guard Leng Yeang with 26 points. The Cougars were led by Rodney Rogers with 18 points as well as Dionte Dunning and local product Mike Beharriell with 15 each.

Next action for the cougar men is next week when they hit the road for action against the same St. Clair team and Lambton College on a southern road swing.
