*** COUGAR PROFILE OF THE WEEK:

Rob Martel

This week's Cougar profile of the week belongs to a person that has been with the varsity basketball program, for his entire college career, a total of four years– the maximum years of eligibility under OCAA rules.

Although he is now considered a retired veteran to the OCAA league, his contribution to the Sault College basketball program will never be forgotten.

Now, with the completion of his fourth year, Martel can walk away with an experience unlike any other.

During his four years, Rob has experienced, an all-star game and 3 point shoot-out, a trip to the Provincials in 2001-2002, OCAA academic achievement awards in 2002-2003/2003-2004, an unforgettable trip to Portugal during the 2003-2004 season, and a 1st place finish in the west division, with an automatic berth to the Provincials this season.

Martel stands at 6 feet, and is best known for his quick wit humor and his three point shot. Martel has played the shooting guard position since his years at St. Basil Secondary in Sault Ste. Marie.

Rob has maintained a high academic standing during his years at Sault College, with a completion in diploma programs Police Foundations, Law & Security, and currently enrolled as a Computer Programmer.

Head Coach Cory in a recent interview stated, "Rob has been an essential part of Sault College's success, and has been a player that I have always looked to for leadership of the young student athletes.

"He will be missed, along with his colorful personality. Rob leaves a good impression on the players and coaches that have gotten to know him, especially Popps."

Good luck Rob, we wish you the very best!

*** THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES:

The Sault College men's Basketball season has now officially come to a close.

For the first time in Division I Men's Basketball history, the Cougars captured first place in the West division. With extreme parity throughout the OCAA this season, the Cougars suffered an opening game heartbreaking loss to the Provincial silver medalist, Centennial Colts in the playoff tournament.

With the Varsity season now over, there are a few players that Sault College would like to acknowledge as they graduate this year, including Jeff Rennison, Paul Soucy, Rob Martel, Ryan Namespetra, Mike Bouchard, and Nate Whalen.

Sault College wishes all of the graduates good luck, and appreciate the contribution that they have made to varsity athletics at Sault College.
