*** COUGAR PROFILE OF THE WEEK:

Desiree Simon

This week's Cougar profile belongs to a member of the women's volleyball team.

Desiree Simon took some time off to focus on her studies and upon returning to the Cougar team this semester, she hopes to help the Sault College team improve their record from a slumping 1-6.

This past weekend, Simon, a third year vet with the Cougar squad, and 2003-2004 Athlete of the Year defeated Canadore College 3-1, capturing the Cougars second win of the year.

Simon lead her team in scoring with an individual 27 points, and was named the OCAA Athlete of the Week, in just her second league game of the year.

At 6'0 tall , and with tremendous arm span, her skill and agility make her an automatic necessity to the Cougar squad. Desiree is a valued athlete in that her valiant efforts, and ability have not only made her part of almost every starting line she's been in since her highschool years at Mount St. Joseph, but a countless award winner.

Desiree was named Most Valuable Player, and Athlete of the Year for the 2003-2004 varsity year.

Coach Jeremy Murdoch describes Desiree "As an experienced 6'0 middle, giving our team a competitive edge. Her play has impact on the game." In addition Coach Murdoch states that, "by returning to the Cougars this semester, she has added more offensive depth, with her size and aggressiveness at the net, to our already defensively sound team."

You can catch Desiree, and the entire talented Women's Volleyball team when they host Humber College at 8pm on Friday January 28th, at home.

*** COUGAR ALL-STARS:

Simon named OCAA Athlete of the Week & All-Stars Ouattara & Whalen represent Sault College in Hamilton

The Sault College Cougar Athletes took a rest this weekend with the exception of two members from the men's basketball team who headed to ALL STAR WEEKEND.

Jean Louis Ouattara, the OCAA leading scorer, participated in the all-star game as well as the slam dunk contest. Nate Whalen represented Sault College in the 3-point contest.

The All Star Basketball weekend took place this Saturday at Mohawk College in Hamilton.

On an even brighter note, the women improved their record to 2 wins and 8 losses, with a big win against Canadore 3 games to 1.

The addition of Desiree Simon helped the Cougar Squad defeat Canadore College, as she led the way with 27 points that included 21 kills, 2 blocks, and 4 aces.

After just her second league game, Simon was named OCAA Athlete of the Week, after her remarkable effort against Canadore College.

Although the Women's Volleyball team was not as successful, falling victim to Nipissing losing in a 3-0 effort. Simon again led the way and delivered another 7 points.

The men suffered two exhibition game losses in Michigan this past weekend.

Regular league play resumes, with three Cougar home games starting Friday January 28th when the women look to defeat Humber at 8pm, followed by a game vs St Clair on Saturday at 12pm. The men's basketball will also take on St Clair at 2pm.
