Saturday's Mayor's Cup results

The Mayor's Cup City Men's Hockey League playoff schedule was loaded with five more games at the Pee Wee Arena on Saturday.

In the 33+ division, Smack Daddy's opened with a 6-3 win over Microage/Smack Daddy's. Wade Varcoe scored three goals for the winners with singles going to Joe Albert, who also added an assist, Dan Nardo and Matt Sizer. Barry Bissonnette recorded four assists with Steve Vresk and Brain Ducharme adding two each.

Kevin Auger and Greg Oja replied with a goal and an assist each for Microage/Smack Daddy's while Pat Lillie scored the other and Doug Witty added three assists.

A two goal and three assist effort by Al Carrier paced Mr. Transmission to a 7-5 win over the American Mohawks. Roget Rosset potted two goals and an assist, Ron Sartor scored once and set up another while Rick Even capped the scoring. Scott MacPherson and Doug Laprod set up two goals each.

For the Mohawks, Greg MacLean, who also added an assist, Darby McCoy, Marty Porcoro, Sid Bradley and Al Bouschor scored a goal each. Joe Micolo and Corey Metro had two assist nights.

Stitch King/Weedman rolled past Tulloch Engineering 7-1. Randy Latvinen had two goals for the winners while Tony Greco scored a goal and three assists, Bill Carriere had a goal and two helpers, Jody Wilson notch a goal and set up another with Tom Murray and Lou Melchiorre adding a goal each. Mike Johnson recorded a pair of assists.

Frank Giaccione replied with the lone goal for Tulloch Engineering.

In the open division, Jeff Green scored the game winner in a shootout to lift the Soo Kings to a 4-3 win over McDougall Fuels. Gary Armstrong had two goals and an assist for the winners while Ken Belanger had a goal and an assist. Derek MacFarlane and Rob Palunhuk had two assists each while Nick Chanis also scored in the shootout.

For McDougall Fuels, Luke Hopkins, who also scored in the shootout, and Curtis Cress each recorded a goal and an assist while Anthony Mannarino potted the other.

In the final game, Clarica/Blueliners defeated Assante Capital/Mr. Transmission 8-2 on the strength of two goals and three assists from Gary Roach. Brad Baber scored once and set up two others, Beau Neveau and Al DiPasquo each had a goal and an assist while singles went to Dan St. Germaine and John Bossio.

Greg Mizzi replied with a goal and an assist while Andy Lesyshen also scored.

The Mayor's Cup will take a brief holiday with no games scheduled on Sunday but will resume with a pair of games on Monday.
