The St. Basil Saints are off to a winning start at the OFSAA basketball championships.

The Saints entered the Ontario Federation of Schools Athletic Association Girls AA Basketball Championships in North Bay on Thursday as the tournament's fifth seed and scored a 35-30 win over Cambridge's Monsignor Doyle Secondary School.

Rachel Cobean and Kaitlin DeBoer led the Saints with 10 points each. Rochelle Reid replied with 12 for Monsignor, an unranked team.

St. Basil will be back in action on Friday at 10 a.m. against another unranked team in Dundas' Parkside High School, which lost their opening game to second ranked Mother Theresa from Scarborough 55-43.

Should the Saints win, they will continue on in the championship bracket and face the winner of the game between fourth ranked St. Christopher from Sarnia and seventh ranked North Grenville from Kemptville at 5 p.m. on Friday.

With a loss, St. Basil would advance into the consolation bracket and face the loser of the St. Christopher and North Grenville game at 5 p.m.
