Saints go marching into semi-finals (Updated)

The St. Basil Saints are on a roll. With their third straight victory on Tuesday night at Rocky DiPietro Field, the Saints have advanced to the semi-finals in the High School Football League senior division.

With their third straight victory on Tuesday night at Rocky DiPietro Field, the Saints have advanced to the semi-finals in the High School Football League senior division.

Saints quarterback Andrew Allen tossed touchdown passes of 18 and six yards to Kevin Smith and Mark Hoffman ran in another from one yard out as St. Basil defeated the Bawating Braves 20-7 in a special tiebreaker to determine the fourth and final playoff position.

Michael Storzuk threw a 21 yard touchdown pass to Joe Storozuk for the Braves while Brad Beatty added the convert. Steve Pandzik kicked two converts for the Saints.

St. Basil will now face the unbeaten St. Mary's Knights on Friday at Rocky DiPietro Field at 7 p.m. in one semi-final while the White Pines Wolverines tackle the Sir James Dunn Eagles on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the other semi-final.

The city championship is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.

Tommy Reville led the Saints attack with 138 yards rushing on 17 carries.

Defensively, Mike Wozny recorded six tackles and two sacks, Dion Marson made six tackles and a sack while Dan Buonomo made 6.5 tackles, Rob Amadio six and Josh MacFarlene, who also recovered a fumble, four.

For the Braves, Michael Storozuk threw for 151 yards by completing 13 of 27 passes to seven different receivers. Brad Radbourne, who also led the rushing attack with 46 yards on seven carries, made four catches for 29 yards and Tim Young four more for 22 yards.

Jon Turner and Doug Watt led the Braves defense with 6.5 tackles each and Zach Clement made 5.5. Ryan Gardner recovered a fumble.

In junior division quarterfinal playoff action on Tuesday afternoon, Sir James Dunn defeated Bawating 7-6.

Meanwhile, the Korah Colts advanced with a 36-8 win over the White Pines Wolverines.
