LONDON -- A damaging final minute of the first half was more than the Sault Sabercats could recover from on Saturday.

Scoring 15 points in the final 28 seconds of the opening half, the London Falcons built a 29-13 lead and cruised to a 39-21 victory in Ontario Varsity Football League action at TD Waterhouse Stadium on the campus of the University of Western Ontario.

The loss drops the Sabercats record to 2-2 at the midpoint of the regular season.

The team returns home to face the Sudbury Northerners on Saturday at Rocky DiPietro Field beginning at 1 p.m.

Jonathan Widgett, on a three yard pass from quarterback Anthony Amadio, and Jeff Greco on a one yard run scored touchdowns for the Sabercats in the first half.

The Sabercats, playing their second game without injured starting quarterback John Mullin, seemed to pull themselves back into the game late in the third quarter when Kofi Osei scored on a one yard run and Joe Storozuk was credited with a two point convert before pinning the Falcons on their own two yard line on the ensuing kickoff.

But the Falcons put together a 108 yard drive which ate up 8:11 on the clock and gave London and insurmountable 36-21 lead. London added a field goal in the final minute.

Osei led the rushing attack with 56 yards on 14 carries while Greco added 46 yards on seven carries in the first half before leaving the game with a rib injury. Amadio completed seven of 20 passes for 93 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Widgett caught three passes for 58 yards and Cory Wensley hauled in two passes for 19 yards.

Defensively, Frank Weise led with 7.5 tackles, Adam Elliott added five tackles and a sack, Dan Buonomo recorded six tackles, Jason Amadio made four tackles and a sack while Mike Storozuk had 4.5 tackles and Justin Wensley four.
