SUDBURY -- The Sault Sabercats limped away from Queen's Athletic Field in Sudbury on Friday after suffering their second loss of the season.

Without starting quarterback John Mullin, who missed the game due to an injury in his non-throwing shoulder, the Sabercats' offense sputtered throughout the game while a couple of big offensive plays by the Sudbury Northerners against the tough Sault defense proved to be the difference.

With the 16-0 loss, the Sabercats fall into a second place tie in the Ontario Varsity Football League's Adam Division - West with the Guelph Bears with a 4-2 record. The 5-1 Essex Ravens move into top spot.

Sudbury would score the only point they would need late in the first half as Jamie Corkal scored a single on a missed 25 yard field goal attempt.

Corkal added another single on the kick off to open the second half before Eric Ehtier, who exploded for 182 yards rushing on 23 carries, scored fourth quarter touchdowns on runs of 27 and 11 yards.

Kofi Osei led the Sabercats rushing attack with 52 yards on 11 carries while Anthony Orazietti added 36 yards on six attempts. Quarterbacks Mike Storozuk and Peter MacNamara combined to complete seven of 23 passes for 74 yards and four interceptions. Tommy Reville caught three passes for 58 yards while Noah Rushon hauled in four catches for 16 yards.

Defensively, Joey Thorburn and Mark Porco recorded six tackles each while Frank Weise added five. Rob Amadio and Tysen Vanderloo added 4.5 tackles and a sack each while Tyler King made two tackles and a sack. Marc Palumbo recorded an interception while Kyle Lanteigne recovered a fumble.

The Sabercats will now enjoy a bye this coming weekend before closing out the regular season with a pair of home games at Rocky DiPietro Field.

On Sunday, July 17, the Sabercats entertain the Cambridge Lions at 12 p.m. before meeting Barrie's Huronia Stallions on Sat., July 23 at 2 p.m.
