Sparked by the return of John Mullin at quarterback, the Sault Sabercats turned up their offense to get past the Sudbury Northerners and back into the win column on Saturday afternoon at Rocky DiPietro Field.

Jeff Greco ran for two touchdowns and Mullin, celebrating his 18th birthday, passed for 238 yards and one major in a 35-13 Ontario Varsity Football League victory which also stopped a two-game losing skid.

The Sabercats now sit at 3-2 on the season and will return to the road for a game against the Wentworth Panthers next Sunday afternoon.

Mullin, who missed two games plus most of the game he injured his shoulder in, led the offense down the field on their first possession and connected with Tyler Brown on a 55 yard touchdown reception.

Greco's first major score from one yard out gave the Sabercats a 14-6 lead at the half as Sudbury kicker Jonathon Hussak booted field goals from 23 and 16 yards.

After a converted two yard touchdown run by Eric Ethier pulled Sudbury to within a point, Peter McGonegal scampered into the end zone on a 28 yard run to open the fourth quarter and restore an eight point lead.

A Frank Weise touchdown on a recovered punt in the end zone took all the steam out of Sudbury. The disputed touchdown occurred after Weise crossed the line of scrimmage, punted the ball in the end zone and recovered his own kick for the score.

Greco completed the scoring with a 35 yard touchdown run in the final minute. Weise also kicked five converts.

Further details will be added later.
