Quinton repeats at Elliot Lake drag races

Doug Quinton won the final round last Sunday at the Kumho Tires Presents the 6th Annual OK Tire North Shore Challenge in Elliot Lake this past weekend by beating out Brian Lingenfelter of Kirkland Lake for the second time.

In the final round one year ago, these two Semi-Pro racers went head-to-head in the final round on Sunday with Quinton beating Lingenfelter on the start line with a better reaction time.

But this year would see Lingenfelter have the better start line time only to have his car fade near the end of the 1/8th mile drag breaking a push rod.

Saturday was hot and blistering with Dominic Ruscio and Lou Carlucci blazing a trail in the Semi Pro division to the 1/4 finals.

Carlucci went up against Alex Bumbacco's "Bordertown Bully" with Bumbacco taking the win and advance him to the semi-final round only to lose his chance to continue on to the final round.

With the new format for the Street Division a couple of Sault boys made the cut for the final 32 who were David Aubertin and Randy Quinton.

Aubertin made two rounds on Sunday only to have his car break on the 3rd round.

As for Randy Quinton it looked like he was well on his way to a final round appearance and a possible repeat of a Street Class win only to have his hopes dashed in the 1/4 final round.

Taking the title of "King Of The Street", or should I say "Queen Of The Street" was Tamara Simeone of Sudbury, daughter of Semi Pro racer John Simeone.

Overall the weekend in Elliot Lake had the Soo Crew making their presence known and proving to be a force to be reckoned with on the drag strip.

The next planned event at this time is the Labour Day Fun fest at Mid Michigan Motorplex in Stanton, Michigan and maybe Peter Manzo can repeat a win in the Street Class there.
