Pro softball game scheduled in Michigan Sault

Tickets for Michigan Ice-Team Venezuela softball game are on sale

SAULT STE. MARIE – Tickets for the June 19 exhibition softball game between the Michigan Ice pro team and Team Venezuela are now on sale at the Norris Center Ticket Office and Sault Ste. Marie city clerk’s office.

The game will begin at 6:05 p.m. on Monday, June 19, at Locey Field in Sault Ste. Marie. Tickets are $5 per person and will be available at the gate. Locey Field is located on 12th Avenue, east of Meridian and west of the I-75 Business Spur.

The Michigan Ice is a brand new women’s professional softball franchise located in Midland, Mich. The Ice open training camp on June 1 and will make their debut June 7 in Houston, Texas. They play their home opener on June 16 at MidlandR17;s Currie Stadium against Team Venezuela.

Michigan Ice general manager Jason Newsham hopes to bring the Ice to the Upper Peninsula once a year and has picked Sault Ste. Marie as the team’s first U.P. stop. The Ice will also hold a clinic for players ages 7-18 on June 19 from noon to 3 p.m. at Kaunisto Field on 8th Ave. The cost for the clinic is $35 and includes a ticket to the evening game. The Ice will introduce their team and coaching staff during media day on May 25 in Midland. Their first player signed was former NCAA II championship pitcher Jennie Mackson of Grand Valley State.
